i am starting from the end. my sister and i spent our last days in stockholm in our motherland of sweden. don’t let our brown eyes and brown locks fool you because we are, in fact, swedish. to prove how swedish we are, it was important for us to take iphone photos of everytime we saw the name “carlson” used in some context. and it was a lot.
we stayed in the city centre at the most adorable apartment via airbnb. our hostess was wonderful and it gave us an opportunity to take the locals route in our exploration. from visiting the ice bar, to eating at vappianos to shopping at one of the bazillion h&ms at the galleria, or just my morning stroll at the local grocery market picking out fresh pastries, choosing the airbnb route was the way to go. what most people don’t know is that sweden is so much better than what people might assume to be “just like ikea”. no doubt, we did see ikea but what got me was how friendly everyone was. and despite the majority of swedes knowing the english language, i felt as though i were in a true foreign city (sorry to bash on you, london). my goal is to return with tk hopefully in the next couple of years to explore more family history (tk is swedish too!), sleep in the ice hotel and of course, to dogsled across the countryside.
